Many of you signed the six referendum petitions, either at the congregation event at Granada Park in September, or at some other signing location. The one petition that is very likely to have sufficient qualified signatures is the one contesting the Flat Tax that was passed by the Legislature. 118,000 valid petition signatures are required, and we collected 230,000+. There will be massive efforts to invalidate signatures by entities funded by dark money. As a reminder, the effect of the flat tax if the voters don’t overturn it in November of 2022 is the following:
1828 – Flat Tax
- Reduces state revenue by $1.9 billion by introducing a “so called” flat tax that gives the wealthiest Arizonans a $350,000 tax break.
- Disproportionately benefits the wealthy. Nearly ¾ of residents will see less than $50 and ½ will only receive $17 (according to AZ Cap Times).
- A ⅔ majority of the Legislature is required to reverse the flat tax, meaning this change is all but permanent. A referendum is the only solution to prevent this damage to our economy.
