Roy Miller died on Monday, August 20th, surrounded by his family after having cancer for two and a half years. Roy has been a member of UUCP since 1977. He ran our Great Sermons series, where he would pick out great sermons from our UUCP past and discuss them. He especially loved Rev. Burdette Backus, who served in the 1950s. In recent years, he came to every board meeting and every governance committee meeting. He never contributed but explained his presence saying “what gets watched, gets managed.” He loved a good debate, especially around theological or political issues. He never took the “party line” just because everyone else believed it. Many of you here may have had spirited discussions with Roy.

Roy graduated from the U.S. Air Force Academy, served as an instructor pilot at Williams Air Force Base and continued his service as a reservist, retiring as a full colonel. He leaves his wife Mary, three daughters; seven grandchildren; and two siblings. The memorial service will be held at UUCP on Saturday, October 5, 2024, at 10 AM.
