Social Action Committee

Social Action Committee Chairs: Bill Lace and Sarah Burchard

Monthly Meetings
The Social Action Committee (SAC) normally meets at noon (or after the second service) on the second Sunday of each month. For more information please contact socialaction@phoenixuu.org

SAC Luncheons
The Committee normally has a Social Action Luncheon on the third Sunday of each month around noon (or after the second service) in the Johnson Room. Guest Speakers are announced in our weekly e-newsletter the UUCP Compass. A small donation is requested to cover the cost of food. Childcare is available in the nursery and the Johnson Room is handicap accessible.

Social Action Table
The Committee staffs a table at the back of the Sanctuary on Sundays where you can learn more about the Committee projects. The committee sells the coffee purchased for the congregation from a Fair Trade company, educates the congregation on the issues of Fair Trade coffee, and sells the coffee for congregant consumption to promote economic justice in our consumer habits.

Phoenix’s Pride Festival
Phoenix’s Pride Parade expresses the many facets of the local lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender community and their straight allies. It is a time for all elements of our community to come together. UUCP has participated many times, including at least the past six years in a row. In 2007 UUCP was represented in by a walking group of almost sixty people aged two to eighty-two; in April 2008 many from UUCP will walk in the parade and our choir will sing as they ride along the route. Some walk to show their gay pride. Some walk as straight allies. Some walk on behalf of those who can’t, for fear of being outed and fired from their jobs. We walk to let people know that whoever they are, they are welcome at UUCP’s Celebration of Life.
